CofFEE held the Understanding Unemployment in Australia, Japan, and the USA: A Cross Country Analysis Workshop on December 10-11, 2001 to review our research program that has been undertaken as part of an ARC Large Grant. Our research collaborators Professors Michio Akama and Yoritoshi Nagai, both from Ehime University in Japan and Professor Randy Wray travelled to Newcastle to participate and present papers.

The occasion also doubled as the Book Launch for the new book by CofFEE authors called Unemployment: the tip of the iceberg, edited by Bill Mitchell and Ellen Carlson, published by CAER and distributed by the University of New South Wales Press, Sydney. David Thompson the CEO from Jobs Australia officially launched the book and spoke about the urgency of solving unemployment and the relative of failure of supply side initiatives that governments have pursued over the last 20 odd years. Around 45 people attended the launch. Professor Brian English. Professor John Nevile and Associate Professor Peter Kriesler from the UNSW and CAER were guests.

The book is available for purchase via the CofFEE Shop or at bookshops that stock UNSW Press publications.
