The Centre of Full Employment and Equity (CofFEE) held a one-day workshop on the theme Unemployment, Inflation and Economic Policy at the University on Thursday, April 11.

  1. Malcolm Sawyer - Leeds University Business School, U.K. - The NAIRU, Aggregate Demand and Investment

  2. Peter Kriesler and John Nevile - Centre of Applied Economic Research, UNSW - The Macroeconomic Impacts of Globalisation

  3. Warren Mosler - Director AVM Ltd Funds Management, USA - presented a Mini-Forum entitled Why government cheques do not bounce!. This presentation outlined why the government doesn't have a financing constraint and general discussion followed.

  4. David Gruen - Reserve Bank of Australia - Estimating the NAIRU and the Output Gap in Australia. This presentation was based on earlier work available as The Phillips Curve in Australia (Please note that the presentation notes are from scanned copy).

  5. Bill Mitchell - CofFEE, University of Newcastle - Non-linearity in unemployment and demand side policy for Australia, Japan and the US

  6. Policy Forum - The four paper presenters were each asked to provide a concise (5-minute) summary of the implications for policies to solve unemployment that arise from their papers. A wide ranging open discussion followed.
