British local unemployment and the August 2011 Riots

This map of Britain has two layers: (a) the local area unemployment rate range (see legend below); and (b) location and information about the August 2011 riots.

The red markers indicate local areas which were subject to riots in August 2011. Clicking the marker provides details of the particular incidenct. The riot incident data was derived from the UK Guardian Database.

You can zoom into the map to see detail. The map works like any other Google map.
